Criticism continues to mount, primarily from opposition parties, over the government's response to the landmine explosion in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). They argue that mine clearance operations alone are not enough. Right after the 2015 wooden-box landmine blast, South Korea resumed loudspeaker broadcasts toward North Korea, but the government currently maintains a reserved stance on this. Appearing on SBS's "Discovery of Knowledge," former Special Warfare Commander Jeon In-bum described these loudspeaker broadcasts as a "nuclear weapon-grade weapon." What is the reason behind this? We also asked General Jeon how he assesses the prospects of a North Korea–US summit, for which the National Intelligence Service estimated a roughly 50% chance of taking place.
