Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels carried out an airstrike on the international airport in Aden, the Yemeni government's interim capital, on the 7th local time, according to Reuters.
According to the Yemeni Ministry of Transportation, the Houthis attacked Aden International Airport using ballistic missiles and explosive-laden drones.
The ministry stated that one of the missiles landed near the airport runway just minutes before a flight from Cairo, Egypt, was scheduled to land.
Authorities canceled the landing and diverted the aircraft to King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah.
Two aircraft on the runway were moved to another area in preparation for potential additional strikes.
Aden International Airport serves as a vital gateway connecting areas controlled by the Yemeni government to the outside world.
If the Houthis continue to threaten Aden International Airport, the Yemeni government is likely to suffer extensive blows across military, logistical, and diplomatic fronts.
The Houthis have also expanded attacks targeting the mainland of Saudi Arabia, which supports Yemen.
The Saudi-led coalition in Yemen announced the same day that it intercepted and destroyed a Houthi ballistic missile in the airspace north of the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
Separately, the Houthis claimed to have targeted Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport and Abha International Airport in southwestern Saudi Arabia.
Saudi authorities did not immediately confirm these claims.
