Visiting AMD Chair and CEO Lisa Su is meeting with the semiconductor heads of Samsung and SK to discuss ways to strengthen AI cooperation.

According to the industry on the 7th, Su is meeting with major executives, including Jun Young-hyun, Vice Chairman and Head of the Device Solutions (DS) Division at Samsung Electronics, at the Samsung Electronics Seocho building in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, this afternoon.

Su previously visited South Korea in March of this year, touring production lines at Samsung Electronics' Pyeongtaek campus alongside Vice Chairman Jun and President Han Jin-man, head of the Foundry Business.

Following the tour, she had a dinner meeting with Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong at Seungjiwon in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul.

With this meeting between Vice Chairman Jun and Su taking place about seven months later, Samsung Electronics and AMD are expected to strengthen cooperation in AI semiconductors, including High Bandwidth Memory (HBM).

Samsung Electronics has maintained a steady partnership in the memory sector by supplying HBM3E (5th generation) and HBM4 (6th generation) for AMD's latest AI accelerators.

Previously, AMD designated Samsung Electronics as the primary supplier of HBM4 to be featured in its next-generation AI accelerator, the Instinct MI455X.

As AMD has repeatedly mentioned the need to expand its AI accelerator volume, the possibility of foundry (contract semiconductor manufacturing) cooperation utilizing Samsung Electronics' cutting-edge processes has also been raised.

If Samsung Electronics' foundry secures AMD as a client, it is expected to accelerate its transition to profitability.

Su is also known to have met with SK Hynix President and CEO Kwak Noh-jung this afternoon.

It is reported that this is the first time the two semiconductor heads have met in South Korea.

Amid a surge in demand for AI accelerators, attention is focused on whether AMD and SK Hynix will forge a new partnership in high-performance memory, including HBM4.

Meanwhile, on the first day of her visit, Su attended a roundtable with the Ministry of Science and ICT and domestic AI semiconductor companies at the Four Seasons Hotel in Jongno-gu, Seoul, in the morning, and attended the "AMD Gamer Day" held at Dragon City in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, at 2:00 PM.
