Ruling and opposition parties clashed today (October 7) during the parliamentary audit of the National Assembly's Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee over a tip-off mentioned by Rep. Park Choong-kwon of the People Power Party regarding alleged attempts to "coax North Korean defectors to return to the North." During the audit targeting the Ministry of Unification and other agencies held today at the ministry's Office of Inter-Korean Dialogue in Jongno-gu, Seoul, Rep. Park told Unification Minister Chung Dong-young, "Reports are coming in that the Ministry of Unification's Resettlement Support Division and Minbyun (Lawyers for a Democratic Society) have joined hands to continuously contact North Korean defectors who have settled and are living well in South Korea, coaxing them to return to the North along the lines of 'Don't you want to go back to North Korea?'"
