There is a special housing supply system for medalists.

Controversies regarding military service benefits and other issues, triggered by remarks from some gold medalists at the recent Asian Games, are continuing nationwide.

Amid this, attention is also drawing to the special housing supply benefits granted to athletes who win medals in international competitions.

According to the current Rules on Housing Supply, elite athletes who place third or higher in competitions such as the Olympics or World Championships can be included as targets for special supplies of national housing.

If selected as a recipient, they can receive a special supply of national housing or private housing with a dedicated area of 85 square meters or less, based on one housing unit per household, according to the priority set by relevant agencies.

However, they must have no prior history of receiving a special supply.

They also need to meet requirements such as the period of not owning a home.

This special supply system is known to have been introduced ahead of the 1988 Seoul Olympics to boost the morale of athletes.

Debates over the appropriateness and fairness of these benefits are ongoing online, given that popular complexes with sale prices lower than market rates can yield substantial market margins.
