Wall Street Expected to Post Record Bonuses Again... Estimated Profits of KRW 120 Trillion This Year

Financial firms on Wall Street in the United States are projected to pay record-high bonuses to their employees again this year.

According to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) and other local media outlets on the 6th, New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli estimated that the New York State securities industry will generate more than $90 billion (approx. 120 trillion won) in profits this year.

This is a sharp increase from $65.1 billion (approx. 87 trillion won) last year.

This strong performance is attributed to factors such as the artificial intelligence (AI) investment boom, active corporate mergers and acquisitions (M&As), and increased trading driven by expanded market volatility.

Bonuses for securities industry workers are also expected to break all-time highs this year.

Last year, Wall Street's total bonus pool reached a record $49.2 billion (approx. 66 trillion won).

The average bonus per employee was $246,900 (approx. 330 million won), while the average total compensation including base salary reached $561,770 (approx. 750 million won).
