A driver who fell asleep inside his car while under the influence of alcohol tried to escape after police arrived at the scene, ending up in a crash.

The Daejeon Daedeok Police Station announced today that it has booked a man in his 40s, surnamed A, on charges of drunk driving under the Road Traffic Act following an incident on a road in Daedeok-gu, Daejeon, at around 11:40 p.m. last night (October 6).

Police were dispatched after receiving a report stating that a vehicle had stopped on the road and did not respond even when the horn was honked.

When police used a patrol car to block the vehicle and woke up A, who was asleep inside, he suddenly rammed into the patrol car and fled.

A sped across the road, crashed into a facility in front of a building, and came to a stop after his vehicle overturned.

No one was injured in the accident, and only A sustained minor injuries.

It was confirmed that A's blood alcohol concentration was at a level subject to license revocation.

Police are currently investigating the exact circumstances of the accident.
