The shaken national football team has breathed a sigh of relief by defeating Uzbekistan 2-0. Captain Son Heung-min scored his 59th career A-match goal, surpassing legendary Cha Bum-kun to set a new historic record for the most goals of all time.

Here is a report from reporter Lee Jeong-Chan.

Just four minutes into the first match, Son Heung-min drew a handball foul from the opponent with a sharp shot. After exchanging opinions with Lee Kang-in, Son pierced the Uzbek goal with an exquisite free kick.

The ball, curled low with his right foot, passed through the defensive wall and sucked into the net. Scoring his 59th career A-match goal past "legend" Cha Bum-kun, Son Heung-min set a new record for the most goals in history.

This is Son's third goal in the current four-match A-match series.

However, despite the early opening goal, the national team struggled, failing to seize control against an Uzbekistan side considered a notch below.

Exposing gaps here and there in their defensive organization, they brought crisis upon themselves, narrowly avoiding conceding goals thanks to consecutive brilliant saves by goalkeeper Jo Hyeon-woo, who started after a long while.

Continuing with an insecure lead, the national team turned the tide with a single strike.

In the 15th minute of the second half, tall striker Oh Se-hun headed in a cross delivered from the flank by Song Min-gyu, who had been substituted in for Lee Kang-in.

Finding some breathing room, coach Moreno called twin strikers Son Heung-min and Oh Se-hun to the bench and heavily substituted in players with high work rates to put out the immediate fire.

Reversing the mood with a 2-0 victory following lackluster performances in the previous two games, coach Moreno wrapped up the four-match A-match series with 2 wins, 1 draw, and 1 loss.

[Son Heung-min / National Football Team Captain: I feel quite emotional and overwhelmed. I don't know how much time I have left, but whenever I wear the South Korean national team badge on my chest, I believe the most important thing is to always do my best and show proud images to our citizens and everyone who loves football.]

Having decided to play six matches under interim coach Moreno, the national team will gather again ahead of the final two friendly matches next month.
