A knife attack at a middle school in Istanbul, Turkey’s largest city, left one person dead and seven others injured on the 6th (local time), according to Turkish media reports.

According to authorities, around 8:35 a.m. that day, a 15-year-old female high school student from another area entered a middle school in the Başakşehir district of Istanbul and wielded a weapon.

All of the casualties are reported to be middle school students aged 10 to 13 attending the school.

Investigations showed that the suspect entered the school building wearing the middle school's uniform and carrying a weapon she had brought from home.

However, the specific motive for the crime has not yet been confirmed.

The middle school in question has issued a temporary closure order until the 7th.

The Turkish Ministry of Interior assigned dedicated personnel to launch an investigation, and the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTUK), the media regulatory agency, issued an order banning further reporting until the investigation is concluded.

In Turkey, fatal violence occurring in schools has been frequent recently.

Last month, a 15-year-old student shot and injured 11 people with a shotgun at a high school in Turgutlu, Manisa.

Last April, a middle school student shot at lower-grade students in Kahramanmaraş, southern Turkey, killing at least nine people.
