President Lee Jae-myung instructed the swift and concentrated deployment of necessary personnel and resources to minimize damage following a series of personal data breach incidents at financial and public institutions.
Presiding over the 43rd Cabinet meeting at the Blue House today (October 6), President Lee urged relevant authorities to act, saying, "In some hacking cases, circumstances indicating the use of artificial intelligence (AI) have come to light, causing great public concern and anxiety."
He particularly stressed, "With the advancement of artificial intelligence technology, hacking methods are becoming increasingly sophisticated, and the scope of damage is expanding across all sectors to an extent incomparable to the past," adding, "Not only the government and businesses, but our entire society must take the current situation gravely and exercise heightened vigilance."
President Lee said, "It is difficult to properly respond to ever-evolving cyber threats by merely cleaning up after incidents occur," emphasizing, "We must build security capabilities that detect attacks in advance and preemptively block them."
He continued, "Relevant ministries should promptly inspect the overall security system across key national infrastructure as well as the private sector, and immediately implement necessary security measures," highlighting that "Speed is vital. We must equip ourselves more swiftly and respond rapidly."
President Lee noted, "I hope you will further accelerate the development and dissemination of artificial intelligence technology specialized in cybersecurity," pointing out, "It is time to completely innovate our society's security paradigm to fit the AI era."
He added, "Along with establishing sophisticated security infrastructure, we must also foster strong security awareness," asking, "I request that the public and private sectors join forces in transforming technology, institutions, and mindset for the safe daily lives of the public."
