The Busan International Film Festival opens today (October 6).

A total of 247 official selections from 59 countries will be screened, featuring the festival's first-ever special animation exhibition.

The Busan International Film Festival will run for 10 days starting today.

The opening film is "Day and Night are to Each Other," starring actors Kim Min-ha and Han Sun-hwa, and audiences can look forward to 247 invited works from 59 countries.

In the competitive section, 14 works will compete for the Busan Award Grand Prize, the festival's highest honor.

In recognition of its growing international influence, the Busan International Film Festival has been officially selected as an "A-list film festival" by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations.

This places it shoulder to shoulder with the Cannes, Berlin, and Venice international film festivals.

As a result, the winner of the Busan Award Grand Prize will automatically be eligible for submission to the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film.

Thirteen works will be screened at the newly established special animation exhibition, and actor Michelle Yeoh will visit Busan for the first time in 15 years to receive the Asian Filmmaker of the Year award.
