A dump truck driving on National Route 21 toward Cheonan in Chosa-dong, Asan, South Chungcheong Province, collided with a ladder truck performing road sign maintenance work at around 8:40 a.m. today (October 5).

The accident caused a worker in his 50s, identified as A, to fall from the ladder truck to the road below, resulting in his death. Another worker was seriously injured and transported to a nearby hospital.

The dump truck driver, a man in his 50s identified as B, was also injured and taken to a nearby hospital, but his life is reportedly not in danger.

Police believe that driver B failed to properly spot the workers who were performing maintenance while partially blocking a lane, and are currently investigating the exact circumstances of the incident.

The city of Asan issued an emergency text message at 9:30 a.m. to notify citizens of the traffic accident, advising, "Due to the aftermath of the accident, National Route 21 from Sinchang-myeon toward Cheonan is fully blocked, so please use detour routes."
