North Korea's Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported today (October 4) that an intermediate-range strategic missile launch drill was conducted early yesterday morning under the observation of General Secretary Kim Jong-un, stating that its objective was "advancing nuclear war deterrence."

The state news agency claimed it was a "drill operating a hypersonic strategic weapon system" and asserted that the missile accurately hit a designated target 1,000 kilometers away in the East Sea.

Photos released by the agency showed that Kim Jong-un's daughter, Kim Ju-ae, and his wife, Ri Sol-ju, also accompanied him to the missile launch site.
