A man in his 60s died after being struck by a commuter train on the northbound tracks between Uiwang Station and Sungkyunkwan University Station on Subway Line 1 in Yuljeon-dong, Jangan-gu, Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, at around 6:00 a.m. today (October 3).
Due to the accident, northbound train operations were delayed for about two hours and forty minutes.
Authorities reported that 12 regular and commuter trains were delayed by 10 to 30 minutes each.
Southbound trains operated normally.
Some 150 passengers on the accident train transferred to a following train.
Following the accident, KORAIL deployed an initial response team and requested police and fire services to dispatch personnel to clear the scene.
A KORAIL official stated, "We believe the casualty accident occurred after someone entered the tracks without authorization."
Police stated there are no signs of foul play and are investigating the exact circumstances based on statements from the train engineer and other evidence.
