The recurve national team's goal of a clean sweep across all events went awry from the start.
The women's national team, which had guarded the top of the Asian Games podium for 28 years, suffered a shocking setback after being tripped up by India in the team final, dashing hopes for an 8th consecutive victory. In the mixed event, they lost to China in the semifinals and had to settle for a bronze medal.

Kim Woojin, Lee Wooseok, and Kim Je-deok, who teamed up to win the gold medal in the men's team event at the Paris Olympics, defended the pride of South Korean archery.
After completely defeating Chinese Taipei by taking three straight sets in the semifinals, they secured the lead in the second set of the final against India—where a tight balance had been maintained—by hitting all of their first three arrows dead center into the target.

The players, having completed two consecutive men's team titles at the Asian Games, roared while pointing at the Taegeukgi on their arms,

and basked in their joy atop the highest step of the podium with a celebration signifying back-to-back championships.
[Kim Woojin / National Recurve Archery Athlete: Because we've continuously achieved good results and only won in international competitions, there was a lot of pressure for this year's Asian Games. I feel like I've finally shaken all of that off.]
Having defended their pride with the men's team gold medal, South Korean archery will target simultaneous gold medals in the final men's and women's individual events tomorrow.
