Following Shinhan Bank and KB Kookmin Bank, Hana Bank has also suffered customer information leaks due to hacking, sounding the alarm over security across the entire banking sector.
Hana Bank announced that it has determined that an external hacking group gained abnormal access to its sales support system (ODS), resulting in the leakage of information for 89 customers.
The leaked information includes resident registration numbers, names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, mobile phone numbers, and workplace names.
Hana Bank explained, "This system is a channel separate from the internet and mobile banking transaction systems, and it has been confirmed that there is no relation to the leakage of customers' financial transaction information."
Hana Bank is individually notifying the customers who were affected.
If actual damage occurs due to the information leak in the future, the bank plans to compensate in full in accordance with relevant regulations.
Hana Bank stated, "We take this incident very seriously and will do our utmost to thoroughly investigate the cause in close cooperation with relevant organizations and prepare measures to prevent recurrence."
It added, "We deeply apologize for causing concern to our customers."
Earlier, Shinhan Bank announced yesterday (October 1) that customer information for approximately 25,000 people was leaked after the "communication protocol structure" of its dedicated service for loan solicitors was hacked.
It was also confirmed that personal and credit information of 119 customers at KB Kookmin Bank was leaked due to an external intrusion.
The Financial Services Commission held an "emergency situation response meeting" for the financial sector, chaired by Shin Jin-chang, standing commissioner (Secretary General), to share the attack types and methods of recent financial company information leaks.
In addition, the commission instructed the banking and credit card sectors to conduct self-inspections of all computer systems exposed externally.
