KB Kookmin Bank announced today (October 2) that the personal credit information of 119 customers has been leaked due to an external breach.

The system from which the personal credit information was leaked is an internal mobile work support system for employees, which is unrelated to customer financial transactions such as internet banking or mobile banking.

The leaked information varies by customer but includes names, phone numbers, addresses, and encrypted resident registration numbers.

Kookmin Bank explained that it detected the possibility of a data leak through abnormal external access on the night of September 30 and fundamentally blocked the relevant server and access path to prevent subsequent damage.

The affected customers have been individually notified of the data leak and provided with instructions on how to prevent secondary damage. To promptly respond to damage reports and other inquiries, the bank is operating a dedicated counseling center alongside its main call center.

Kookmin Bank stated that it plans to fully compensate customers if any damages occur due to this data leak.

"We take this situation very seriously and are operating an enterprise-wide emergency response system, including a thorough review of all related processes from scratch to prevent additional damage and recurrence," a Kookmin Bank official said.

Previously, a hacking incident also occurred at Shinhan Bank on September 30, resulting in the leakage of customer information for about 25,000 people.
