World-dominant South Korean archery has missed out on claiming its eighth consecutive title in the women's recurve team event at the Asian Games.
The women's national team—consisting of Kang Chae-young, Lee Yoon-ji (both from Hyundai Mobis), and Oh Ye-jin (Gwangju Bank)—lost to India with a set score of 3-5 (54-54, 56-56, 51-55, 54-54) in the recurve team final held on October 2 at the Okazaki Central Park Multipurpose Square in Aichi Prefecture, Japan.
The consecutive championship streak for South Korean archery in this event, which had remained undefeated since the 1998 Bangkok Asian Games, has come to an end at seven.
In this format, the scores of two arrows per archer in each set are combined, with the winning team earning two points and a draw yielding one point.
The national team advanced to the final by decisively defeating Indonesia 6-0 (53-49, 54-52, 57-55) in the semifinals despite strong winds.
After drawing the first and second sets against a tough Indian side, the national team conceded the third set when all three archers shot 8s on their second attempts.
In the fourth set, India's final arrow dramatically hit the 10-ring to force a draw, ultimately leaving South Korea to bow out with a set score of 3-5.
