[Anchor] Cases of damage are reportedly on the rise among people trying to use YouTube Premium at a lower cost.
[Reporter] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that more than 200 related damage consultations were received from the beginning of this year through August.
The most frequent type of damage involved contract changes and non-performances where services were suspended even before the contract period expired.
In fact, one user paid an annual fee of 65,000 won in advance, but the service was cut off before the contract term ended, and the company became unreachable, leaving the user unable to get a refund.
Damages were concentrated among people in their 20s and 30s, accounting for 75% of all consultations.
These companies have mainly provided services by adding accounts to overseas family plans or signing up via VPNs in countries with lower pricing. However, as Google recently stepped up sanctions against such abnormal usage, cases of services being cut off mid-contract are reportedly increasing.
