Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has flatly rejected claims by UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham that Iran was involved in a suspected terror plot targeting the Royal Air Force (RAF) Fairford base, stating that the prime minister is "barking up the wrong tree."

Writing on X (formerly Twitter) on October 1 local time, Araghchi blasted, "Prime Minister Burnham says he is 'confident that Iran played a role in this Fairford base incident,' but you are barking up the wrong tree."

He added, "The action to release terrorists presumably working for a foreign country says it all."

He did not elaborate on the specific meaning of this remark.

In an interview with the BBC the previous day, Prime Minister Burnham stated regarding an incident that occurred over the weekend near the RAF Fairford base in southwestern England, which is jointly used by the U.S. military, that there is "strong circumstantial evidence of Iranian involvement."

This marks the British government publicly pointing the finger at Iran as the mastermind behind the incident.

Previously, British local media outlets had continuously raised suspicions of Iranian backing since September 27, immediately after the incident occurred, but the Iranian Embassy in the UK had completely denied such allegations.
