Yoon Gyu-sung (2nd ROK Army Corps) has led South Korean taekwondo to its third consecutive gold medal in the men's individual poomsae event at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
Competing in the men's individual poomsae final at the Toyohashi Gymnasium in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, on October 1, Yoon scored an average of 9.3800 points in recognized poomsae and free poomsae, claiming first place among eight competitors.
He recorded 9.340 points in the recognized poomsae Taeguk 7-jang and 9.420 points in the free poomsae, where routines are performed to music, achieving the highest scores in both categories.
Having previously topped Group B in the semifinals with an average of 8.9400 points, Yoon claimed the top of the podium in his first-ever Asian Games.
Following Kang Min-seong at the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Games and Kang Wan-jin at the Hangzhou Games held in 2023, South Korea achieved its third consecutive victory in this event.
Following Jeong Ha-eun (Yongin City Hall), who earlier won the women's individual event, Yoon also secured a gold medal, allowing South Korea to sweep both gold medals up for grabs in poomsae at this tournament.
