Han Jeoung-ae, secretary-general of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated on Thursday (October 1) that "it is not finalized," regarding U.S. President Donald Trump's announcement presenting South Korea's investment in the Alaska liquefied natural gas (LNG) development project as a fait accompli.

Secretary-General Han wrote on Facebook that day, "A decision on whether to invest in the Alaska LNG project will be made after thorough review under domestic legal procedures based on the principle of commercial rationality."

Earlier, President Trump announced on September 30 (local time) that South Korea would invest more than $50 billion in the Alaska LNG development project, which the South Korean government had stated was under consultation with the U.S. side.

Regarding President Trump's remarks, Secretary-General Han said, "It is judged to have emphasized the U.S. position on the Alaska LNG project."

She added, "Our government consistently reviews investment projects in the United States with commercial rationality as a key principle."
