A former parliamentary aide suspected of receiving 95 million won in bribes in exchange for business favors granted to a healthcare startup has been indicted and detained.

The Anti-Corruption Investigation Division 1 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (ledbyl Prosecutor Kook Won) announced today (September 30) that it has indicted A (46), a former aide to People Power Party lawmaker Baek Jong-heon, on charges including bribery.

B (39), the CEO of the healthcare startup who allegedly handed the bribes to A, was also indicted and detained on charges of embezzlement and bribery.

A is accused of abusing the authority of an aide to provide favors, such as having government agencies use the company's software or tipping off B about ongoing investigations by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.

Investigations revealed that in return, A received approximately 95 million won in bribes through methods such as having a relative falsely registered as an employee of the company to collect monthly salaries.

A is also suspected of pocketing about 33 million won in parliamentary salary by falsely hiring an acquaintance as a secretary in the lawmaker's office where A worked.

Prosecutors also indicted the acquaintance without detention on charges including fraud.

B is accused of embezzling approximately 900 million won in company funds by registering family members and acquaintances as fake employees, and handing over about 95 million won of that amount to A as bribes.

B is also accused of swindling about 440 million won in subsidies by submitting false plans for projects commissioned by public institutions.

Prosecutors formally launched their investigation by raiding A's residence and the company on June 17.

On August 26, prosecutors additionally raided Rep. Baek's office to examine the work computer used by A during their tenure at the lawmaker's office.
