A man in his 60s has been apprehended by the police for posing as a wedding host and stealing congratulatory money at a wedding hall in Gangnam, Seoul.

The Seoul Gangnam Police Station announced today (the 30th) that they have apprehended and are currently investigating a man, A, on charges of theft.

A is accused of posing as a host to wedding guests in the lobby of a wedding hall in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, at around 3:48 p.m. on the 20th, making off with 1 million won in congratulatory money.

Investigations revealed that A has no relation as a relative, family member, or acquaintance to the bride and groom.

Taking advantage of lax management by the host side, A was directly receiving congratulatory money when wedding hall staff, who noticed the crime, apprehended him on the spot and handed him over to the police.

It was found that A, who has a criminal record for similar offenses, committed the crime again while on probation.

The police are investigating the specific details of the incident and whether there are any additional crimes.
