In a joint research paper published through the University of Cambridge by 22 leading artificial intelligence scholars and researchers worldwide, it was pointed out that the automation speed of AI creating better AI without human intervention is accelerating. They noted that an so-called intelligence explosion could occur, where development that would normally take years could be completed within months.

They also warned that in extreme cases where humans lose control over AI, it could lead to the extinction of humanity.

Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft, also stated that the emergence of AI is akin to the appearance of an alien species smarter than humans, warning that complacent responses could bring about a catastrophe.

Pope Leo XIV also pointed out that the threat of AI is not just fake news and that serious solutions must be found.

Amidst growing warnings about the dangers of AI, OpenAI has reportedly withdrawn the launch of its next-generation AI model due to safety concerns.

However, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, speaking at a ceremony where he received the Van Fleet Award for his contributions to South Korea-U.S. relations, dismissed the fears as unnecessary, stating that AI will not run amok.

Jensen Huang stated that slowing down AI development for the sake of safety is the wrong choice.

President Trump, who has opposed AI regulations, is scheduled to have a luncheon on the 29th local time with heavyweights in the AI industry, including the CEOs of Anthropic and Meta, drawing keen interest in the outcome of the discussions.
