Projections have emerged that Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to push for a trilateral summit involving the leaders of the United States, China, and Russia on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit to be hosted in China this coming November.

According to Russia's state-run Vesti TV on the 29th (local time), Yuri Ushakov, the Kremlin's foreign policy aide, stated in an interview with the broadcaster that Russian President Vladimir Putin will attend the APEC summit as planned.

He added, "If the U.S. President is also present, it is highly likely that host President Xi will take steps to hold a trilateral meeting."

Ushakov noted that no agreement has been reached on the matter yet and that U.S. President Donald Trump's attendance is not 100% certain, but said, "If the three leaders gather together, I think it would be natural for them to hold talks."

Ushakov previously hinted at the possibility of a trilateral meeting on the 1st of this month as well, stating, "If things go according to plan, a meeting among the three could materialize."

Regarding the possibility of a US-China-Russia trilateral summit, Russian news agency RIA Novosti reported on the 30th that Chinese Ambassador to Russia Zhang Hanhui assessed in an interview with the Russian daily Izvestia that it would be "very beneficial."

Ambassador Zhang explained, "This is because we believe that if such a trilateral meeting can be brought about, it will be very beneficial to the development and formation of a multipolar world."

He went on to say, "The United States, China, and Russia are permanent members of the UN Security Council and major global powers," adding, "The future of this world depends on our three countries."

However, the Chinese government has not issued an official stance on the matter to date.

At a regular briefing on the 29th, China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded to a reporter's question about the possibility of a trilateral meeting by saying, "We have no information to provide at this time."
