The Seoul Metropolitan Government is moving to overhaul the Hangang Bus fare system.

It is pushing a plan to raise fares on weekends and public holidays to twice the weekday rate.

The city held a public hearing yesterday (September 29) to unveil the revised differential pricing plan for the Hangang Bus.

The proposal changes the current standard fare of 3,000 won to 6,000 won on weekends and public holidays.

After synthesizing the opinions presented at the public hearing, the city plans to go through the Seoul Metropolitan Council's opinion hearing and resolution in November, build the system, and apply the measure starting April next year.

It is also pushing a plan to charge an additional 2,000 won when using the reservation system.

The city plans to pilot it starting next month, evaluate its effectiveness, and then consider a formal introduction.

Since its opening in September of last year, the Hangang Bus has charged the same fare regardless of when it is boarded.

As a result, leisure-seeking passengers concentrated on weekends and public holidays, leading to inconveniences at the sites due to first-come, first-served boarding and increased waiting times.
