Police have launched an investigation after a driver crashed a car into a Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) switch and fled in Daejeon.

According to the Daejeon Fire Headquarters and the Dunsan Police Station, a report was received at around 4:20 a.m. today (September 29) that a passenger car had crashed into a ground-mounted power switch on a road in Tanbang-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon.

When fire authorities arrived at the scene, only the vehicle was left behind, and the driver had already fled.

Due to the accident, the power switch was damaged, causing a blackout in parts of Tanbang-dong and temporarily halting the operation of nearby traffic lights.

KEPCO carried out restoration work and normalized power supply at around 6:15 a.m., about 1 hour and 50 minutes after the accident occurred.

Police are visiting the address of the vehicle owner to verify the identity, and plan to investigate the exact circumstances of the accident as soon as the driver is identified.
