Bukang-i, the shark that drew significant attention from many citizens after entering the artificial waterway at the Busan North Port Waterfront Park, is set to be appointed as an honorary ambassador for the city of Busan.

The city of Busan announced today (September 29) that Bukang-i will be officially appointed as a Busan honorary ambassador.

The city explained that following a citizen poll held on its official Instagram account ahead of the Chuseok holiday regarding the appointment of Bukang-i as an honorary ambassador, a total of approximately 8,200 people participated, with 91 percent voting in favor.

Since Bukang-i first appeared in North Port on the 18th until the 28th, a total of roughly 600,000 visitors have toured the North Port Waterfront Park.

The appointment ceremony will be produced as online content and released through Busan's official Instagram and YouTube channels.

The city of Busan and the National Institute of Fisheries Science plan to use vessels and water pumps this morning to guide Bukang-i back out to the open sea.
