Actor Shim Eun-kyung and singer-actor WOODZ were reportedly set to star in a Japanese film about the atomic bomb, but both sides announced that while they received offers, they ultimately declined.

Earlier, a media outlet reported that the two would appear in the South Korea-Japan joint production film 'Tamako'.

On September 28, Shim's side stated that while it was true she received an offer to star, she turned it down.

WOODZ also explained during a live broadcast that after receiving the script and giving it careful thought, he decided not to participate.

'Tamako' tells the story of a Japanese boy who loses his parents in the 1945 atomic bombing of Hiroshima, travels to Korea with a Zainichi Korean, and subsequently experiences the Korean War.

Due to the sensitive historical subject matter, concerns and backlash emerged online.

In particular, criticisms followed that focusing solely on the atomic bomb damage could leave an impression of Japan, the wartime aggressor, solely as a victim.
