An arrest warrant has been requested for a man in his 40s who threatened citizens with a weapon near a Hangang Park. CCTV footage secured by our reporting team captures the harrowing situation at the time.

A man wearing shorts and a towel around his neck walks the streets with a knife in his right hand.

This scene was captured on the CCTV of a shopping area near Yanghwa Hangang Park in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, at around 3:40 PM yesterday (September 27), the last day of the holiday.

People nearby turn around and start running, and parents sitting in front of a nearby cafe with a baby carrier also hurriedly hide inside the cafe.

The man blocks a car passing on the road, goes to the driver's seat to threaten the driver, and then approaches the cafe, shaking the door and taking threatening actions.

When the cafe door does not open, he gestures toward a motorcycle on the road and rushes at it with a knife.

[Han Jae-won / Cafe Owner: About 20 to 30 seconds after I locked the door, he came with a knife and tried to open it and enter. I was worried what we would do if he broke the window and came in....]

Including citizens who sought shelter after seeing the weapon-wielding man, there were about 15 people inside the cafe at the time.

Fortunately, no one was injured as the cafe owner, along with a customer, locked the door just before the man broke in.

Mr. A, who was wandering the streets with a weapon, was arrested near a building here after a physical struggle with the police.

[Nearby Resident: (Even normally) he points fingers and shouts, and keeps talking to himself while walking around. I told my children, 'If you ever see someone like that, just avoid them,' and then that incident happened.]

The prosecution has requested an arrest warrant applied by the police for Mr. A on charges of carrying a weapon in a public place.

The police are investigating the specific details of the crime based on statements from nearby residents that the man habitually engaged in bizarre behavior near the crime scene.
