Group BTS's title track "Swim" from their album "Arirang," released after about three years, won the grand-prize-equivalent "Song of the Year" award at the MTV Video Music Awards.

Referred to as one of the four major American popular music award shows alongside the Grammys, Billboard, and the American Music Awards, this ceremony is largely decided by fan voting, making this the first time BTS has won Song of the Year.

Last year, BLACKPINK member ROSE claimed the Song of the Year award with "The Apartment Job," a collaboration with Bruno Mars.

BTS swept the "Best K-pop" and "Best Group" categories as well, taking home a total of three awards.

Unable to attend the ceremony due to their schedule, BTS expressed their gratitude through their agency, stating, ""Arirang" is an album that feels like a new beginning, making this award even more meaningful," and adding, "This is all thanks to everyone who has loved our music."

Group BLACKPINK member LISA delivered a dazzling performance at the ceremony and won the "Best Pop" category with "Dream," a track from her first full-length album.

This marks the first time a K-pop solo artist and an Asian solo artist has won the category.

The Video of the Year award went to Taylor Swift, Artist of the Year to Madonna, and the Best New Artist award, for which group CORTIS was nominated, was won by Siena Spiro.
