The 48th WorldSkills Competition held in Shanghai has drawn to a close.

South Korea aimed for its 20th overall victory, but finished in second place behind the host country, China.

South Korea won 4 gold medals, 14 silver medals, 6 bronze medals, and 16 Medallions for Excellence.

The four gold medalists are Kim Jo-young (Amodam Hair) in Hairdressing, Son Hyun-bin (Samsung Electronics) in Web Technologies, Park Ji-min (Samsung Heavy Industries) in Industrial Control, and Yu Ye-chan (Samsung Electro-Mechanics) in Optoelectronics Technology.


China secured first place overall with an overwhelming margin, winning 41 gold medals, 11 silver medals, and 4 bronze medals.

Korea aimed for its 20th overall title, but remained in second place facing the wall of host nation China.

Taiwan ranked third overall, followed by Switzerland in fourth and France in fifth.


During the closing ceremony of the WorldSkills Competition held on the evening of September 27, medals were awarded across 64 skill categories.

This competition brought together 1,385 young skilled talents from 68 countries across 64 categories worldwide.

The 49th WorldSkills Competition will be held in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, in 2028.
