The Iranian delegation, which had shown enthusiasm for peace negotiations by proposing a peace plan conditioned on opening the Strait of Hormuz on the occasion of the UN General Assembly, has no further plans to negotiate with the United States in New York, the state-run IRNA news agency reported on September 28 (local time).

A source speaking on condition of anonymity dismissed mixed reports circulating in some media outlets that talks between Iran and the United States would take place in New York, where the delegation is visiting to attend the UN General Assembly.

The source explained, "The considerations and positions of the Islamic Republic of Iran were clearly and explicitly conveyed to the US side through a Qatari mediator on September 22, and Iran is currently awaiting a response from the US side."

The source added, "Therefore, new negotiation plans with the US side are not included on the Iranian delegation's agenda, and the foreign minister is scheduled to return home on September 29 after completing all scheduled itineraries."

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi visited New York to attend the UN General Assembly, during which they proposed a so-called "seven-day plan" to open the Strait of Hormuz to the US side through Qatar, a mediating country.

However, US President Donald Trump had previously stated that he rejected the Iranian proposal.

In an interview with US broadcaster NBC the previous day, Minister Araghchi said that while he heard the news that President Trump would reject the "seven-day plan," he is still awaiting an official response through the mediator.
