The Korea Consumer Agency (KOCA) and the Korea National Council of Consumer Organizations announced today (September 28) that an analysis of consumer consultations received through the 1372 Consumer Counseling Center in August showed an increase in travel and accommodation-related inquiries.

Total consumer consultations received last month stood at 51,443, representing a 6.6 percent (3,648 cases) decrease from the previous month.

Among items, overseas travel saw the largest surge in consultations compared to July at 83.0 percent, followed by various food products (26.9 percent), hotels and pensions (24.1 percent), diet foods (13.0 percent), and other mobile telecommunication services (12.9 percent).

Consultations surged as a travel agency selling overseas travel packages suspended operations, leading to one-sided cancellations and delayed refunds.

As it was the summer season, requests for compensation regarding the delivery of frozen and fresh foods also increased.

Frequent complaints also involved excessive cancellation penalties charged when canceling hotel or pension reservations, as well as hygiene and facility conditions differing from prior notices.

The item with the highest number of consumer consultations in August was air passenger transport services, followed by air conditioners and fitness centers.

In the event of consumer damage, individuals can apply for consultation through the 1372 Consumer Counseling Center or Consumer24 by preparing transaction details and supporting documents.
