A woman in her 50s of Chinese nationality, suspected of murdering her elderly mother in her 70s with a weapon during the Chuseok holiday, has been arrested.

The Ansan Branch of the Suwon District Court issued an arrest warrant yesterday (September 27) after conducting a pre-arrest interrogation (warrant review) for the woman in her 50s, identified as A, who faces charges of patricide.

The court cited the risk of flight as the reason for issuing the warrant.

Previously, A was accused of swinging a weapon at her 70s mother, with whom she lived, at a multi-family housing unit in Sangnok-gu, Ansan, at around 1:00 a.m. the day before yesterday, causing her death.

Immediately after the crime, A informed an acquaintance, and she was arrested on the scene by police who were dispatched following a report from the acquaintance.

Investigations showed that both A and her mother are of Chinese nationality (ethnic Koreans from China) and lived together alone in the housing unit.

A reportedly stated during police questioning that she committed the crime impulsively while arguing with her mother.

The police plan to conduct a supplementary investigation into the detailed circumstances of the crime involving the arrested A before transferring her to the prosecution.
