Yang Ji-in, aiming for her second consecutive Asian Games medal, took the lead on the first day of the women's 25m pistol event at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.

Yang scored 292 points (11 inner 10s) in the precision stage of the women's 25m pistol preliminaries held today (the 27th) at the Aichi Prefectural Shooting Range in Japan, claiming the top spot.

Hanieh Rostamian of Iran and Trinh Thu Vinh of Vietnam both scored 291 points (13 inner 10s), but based on their scores in the final series, Rostamian placed second with 98 points and Trinh Thu Vinh finished third with 97 points.

Kim Hyun-suk of North Korea ranked fourth with 291 points (8 inner 10s).

Oh Ye-jin, competing alongside Yang, finished eighth with 289 points (15 inner 10s), while Bong Seo-rin placed 12th with 289 points (8 inner 10s).

Combining the scores of Yang Ji-in, Oh Ye-jin, and Bong Seo-rin, South Korea took the lead in the team event with a provisional total of 870 points (34 inner 10s), edging out China (868 points) by 2 points.

India is in third place with 864 points.

The women's 25m pistol preliminaries consist of a total of 60 shots, divided into 30 shots for precision and 30 shots for rapid fire.

The athletes will compete in the rapid-fire event starting at 9:40 a.m. on the 28th, and preliminary rankings will be determined by combining the precision and rapid-fire scores.

The top eight athletes in the preliminaries will advance to the individual final, with a maximum of two athletes per country allowed.

Team medals are decided by the combined 60-shot preliminary totals of three athletes from each country, without a separate final.

Yang Ji-in, Oh Ye-jin, and Bong Seo-rin will go for medals in both the individual and team events at the same venue on the 28th.
