President Lee Jae-myung has departed for home after wrapping up a seven-day, five-night trip to the United States and Mexico on the occasion of the UN General Assembly.

Upon his return, he is expected to turn his immediate attention to a mounting backlog of domestic political issues.

President Lee, making the first state visit to Mexico by a South Korean president in 16 years, emphasized the need for a comprehensive trade pact between the two nations during a summit with President Claudia Sheinbaum.

A Cheong Wa Dae official explained that the "trade agreement" mentioned by President Lee refers to a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), adding that both nations agreed to conduct a joint study on the agreement's economic effects.

President Lee also attended a Stray Kids concert held in Mexico, the largest market for K-content in Latin America, highlighting the importance of cultural exchange.
