"Thor" Park Si-hoon (19, Ulsan Metropolitan City Hall) has finished his first-ever Asian Games appearance in 12th place.

Park struggled with a throw of 17.97 meters, placing 12th out of 13 athletes in the men's shot put final at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games held at the Mizuho Park Athletics Stadium in Nagoya, Japan, yesterday (September 26).

Park fouled on his first attempt and threw 17.97 meters on his second.

He fouled again on his third attempt, failing to break into the top eight and thus concluding his competition.

Mohammadreza Tayebise of Iran won the gold medal with a new tournament record of 20.81 meters, while Tajinderpal Singh Toor of India took the silver with 20.64 meters, and Mohamed Tulu of Saudi Arabia secured the bronze with 20.48 meters.

Park is a prominent shot putter who holds all national age-group records across elementary, middle, and high school divisions.

After setting a U-20 Asian record of 20.65 meters with a 6-kilogram shot put at the U-20 Asian Athletics Championships in May of this year, he claimed the silver medal with a throw of 20.31 meters at the World Athletics U-20 Championships last month, becoming the first South Korean athlete to medal at the event.

However, competing in the senior division at the Asian Games using a 7.26-kilogram shot put, he delivered somewhat disappointing results.

The senior national record in this event is 19.49 meters, set by Jung Il-woo in July 2015.

In the women's 400-meter final, Kim Seo-yun (Changwon City Hall) clocked 53.38 seconds, breaking the national record of 53.67 seconds set by Lee Yoon-kyung in August 2003 for the first time in 23 years.

After setting a personal best of 53.81 seconds in the preliminaries the previous day, she delivered her best performance once again in the final.

She finished fourth behind Salwa Naser of Bahrain (49.20 seconds), Zahra Zarei Manoujan of Iran (52.38 seconds), and Prachi of India (53.21 seconds).

In the men's triple jump, national record holder Kim Jang-woo (Jangheung County Office) finished fourth with a jump of 16.50 meters.

Kim leaped 16.20 meters in his third attempt, fouled on his fourth, but jumped 16.50 meters in his fifth to climb to fourth place.

He recorded 15.74 meters in his final sixth attempt, narrowly missing a spot on the podium.

Su Wen of China won the gold medal with an Asian Games record of 17.42 meters, while Manato Miyao of Japan (16.77 meters) won the silver, and Ma Yinglong of China (16.75 meters) claimed the bronze.

Kim Dong-hyuk (Korea National Sport University), competing in the same event, finished 10th with 15.58 meters.

In the women's 1,500-meter final, Park Na-yeon (Wonju City Hall) finished fifth with 4 minutes and 14.96 seconds, and Kim Yu-jin (Gyeongsan City Hall) placed ninth with 4 minutes and 22.89 seconds.
