The White House announced that U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping exchanged views on the risks and benefits of artificial intelligence during their summit, and agreed to establish a U.S.-China communication channel to maintain contact even in the event of related accidents.

In a fact sheet released on its website yesterday local time (the 25th), the White House stated, "The two leaders agreed to use the term superintelligence, or SI, instead of AI when referring to the relevant new technology," conveying this outcome.

The White House also reported that the two leaders agreed that Iran must never acquire nuclear weapons and that no nation or entity should be permitted to levy tolls on international waterways.

This is interpreted as targeting Iran, which has claimed control over the Strait of Hormuz and threatened to impose de facto tolls on vessels using the strait.

"President Trump and President Xi discussed ways to promote peace and prosperity to enhance the trust of businesses and consumers worldwide," the White House stated, adding, "The two countries agreed to build a constructive relationship for strategic stability based on respect, fairness, and reciprocity."
