Ammunition loss incidents have occurred twice at the Naju Police Station in South Jeolla Province over the past four years, resulting in 50 blank cartridges and one live round going missing, it has been revealed.

According to data on the status of lost firearms and ammunition provided by the National Police Agency to Representative Park Sung-wong of the ruling People Power Party, a member of the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee, the two ammunition loss incidents at the Naju Police Station took place in 2022 and in July of this year.

On July 16, during an ammunition inventory check, it was confirmed that a box containing 50 blank cartridges was missing.

On October 11, 2022, it was also discovered that an on-duty police officer had lost a live round.

The live round and blank cartridges lost in the two incidents have not been recovered to date, and no circumstances indicating they were leaked outside have been confirmed.

Holding the officials in charge at the time responsible for lax management, the police issued minor disciplinary actions against them and are investigating the exact circumstances of the losses.

It was compiled that no other police stations in the Gwangju and South Jeolla Province regions have experienced cases of lost or unauthorized removal of firearms and ammunition from 2017 to the present.
