The South Korean national canoeing team, featuring Choi Min-gyu (34) and Sun Min-ju (21), has won a silver medal in the mixed kayak double 500m at the Asian Games.
Choi Min-gyu and Sun Min-ju finished second with a time of 1 minute, 40.349 seconds in the final of the canoe sprint mixed kayak double 500m at the Miyoshiike Canoe Sprint Course in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, on September 26.
With this result, Choi Min-gyu claimed his second medal of the ongoing competition, following his previous gold medal.
Following his historic joint effort on September 23 to win South Korea's first-ever gold medal in the men's kayak four (K4) 500m, often called the pinnacle of canoeing, alongside Cho Kwang-hee, Kim Hyo-bin, and Jang Sang-won, Choi added a silver medal in the mixed event.
The South Korean national canoeing team is also continuing its impressive run, racking up two gold medals and two silver medals so far and frequently landing on the podium.
In today's final race, Choi Min-gyu and Sun Min-ju finished 0.905 seconds behind China's Li Chenhao and Zhang Luxi (1 minute, 39.444 seconds), who took the title, but fended off a fierce chase by Japan's Rin Fukuda and Akihiro Inoue (1 minute, 40.720 seconds) by 0.371 seconds to successfully defend their second-place position until the end.
South Korean canoeing is achieving dazzling results at this tournament.
Cho Kwang-hee, Kim Hyo-bin, Jang Sang-won, and Choi Min-gyu captured South Korea's first-ever men's kayak four 500m gold medal on September 24, and Cho Kwang-hee and Kim Hyo-bin clinched gold in the kayak double 500m on September 25, becoming the South Korean delegation's first double gold medalists of the event.
Earlier today, in the men's kayak single 500m final, Jang Sang-won won a silver medal, adding momentum to South Korea's canoeing medal race.
