U.S. President Donald Trump has rejected a "7-day plan" proposed by Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on the 25th local time.

According to the report, U.S. officials said President Trump is skeptical of the truce proposal offered by Iran and has left open the possibility of resuming strikes against Iran after the U.S. midterm elections in November.

The report came immediately after Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi proposed the so-called "7-day plan" truce framework on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. Iran had stated that if conditions are met—such as the U.S. ending hostilities on all fronts and releasing frozen Iranian assets—navigation in the Strait of Hormuz would resume within seven days.

However, President Trump is skeptical whether Iran will meet his demands and told his aides that bombing operations against Iran are likely to resume, a U.S. official added.

Earlier in the day, Minister Araghchi told reporters at the UN Headquarters in New York that he had proposed an initiative to the United States exchanging the opening of the Strait of Hormuz for the lifting of sanctions against Iran.
