A Chinese national has been arrested by police for fatally stabbing her elderly mother in her 70s during the Chuseok holiday.

The Gyeonggi Ansan Sangnok Police Station announced that it has arrested and is currently investigating a woman in her 50s, surnamed A, on charges of patricide/matricide for killing her mother at around 1 a.m.

A is accused of wielding a weapon against her mother at a multi-family housing unit in Sangnok-gu, Ansan, resulting in her death.

Immediately after the crime, she informed an acquaintance of what she had done, and the acquaintance reported it to the police, leading to her arrest at the scene.

A's mother was transported to a nearby hospital while receiving cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), but ultimately passed away.

A had been living alone with her mother in this multi-family housing unit, and investigations revealed that she had drunk a bottle of soju before the crime.

She reportedly stated to the police that she committed the crime impulsively after getting into an argument with her mother—who returned home while she was sleeping off the alcohol—over issues such as everyday attitudes.

It was found that both mother and daughter are Chinese nationals of Korean descent.

Police are investigating A to determine the exact circumstances and details of the crime.
