A large fire has broken out at a waste treatment facility in Yeoju, Gyeonggi Province, prompting authorities to launch firefighting operations.

The fire broke out at around 4:50 a.m. today (September 26) at a resource recovery facility located in Sinhae-ri, Ganam-eup, Yeoju, Gyeonggi Province.

Three workers at the facility evacuated immediately after the fire started, and no injuries have been reported so far.

Recognizing the risk of the fire spreading, the fire department issued a Level 1 response and is currently working to extinguish the flames.

Fire authorities stated that it will take time to extinguish the fire due to accumulated waste.

Through an emergency text alert, the city of Yeoju warned, "A large amount of smoke is being generated due to the fire," and urged, "Nearby residents should close their windows to block smoke from entering."

Once the firefighting operations are completed, the fire authorities plan to investigate the exact cause of the fire and the scale of the damage.
