Anthropic's generative AI service, Claude, has firmly secured the No. 2 spot behind ChatGPT in both monthly active users and new installations within the domestic mobile AI app market.

According to Mobile Index by AI tech company IGAWorks, Claude recorded 1,499,096 monthly active users across Android and iOS in August, placing it second behind ChatGPT, which had 17,099,052 users.

Claude has maintained the No. 2 position in monthly active users for three consecutive months from June to August.

It was followed by SK Telecom's A. (A-dot) with 1,149,684 users, Perplexity with 603,474 users, and Grok with 546,315 users.

In terms of new installations, Claude also ranked second with 286,823 downloads, following ChatGPT's 647,439 downloads.

Based on new installations, Claude has kept the No. 2 spot for five consecutive months starting from April.

In August, Google Gemini ranked third in new installations with 204,672 downloads, followed by Grok in fourth with 121,605 downloads, and the AI character chat app Polybuzz in fifth with 67,945 downloads.

This survey compiled the usage data of AI and artificial intelligence apps within the productivity category among domestic Android and iOS users in August.
