A fire, suspected to be arson, broke out at a villa in Deokgye-dong, Yangju, Gyeonggi Province, on the afternoon of September 25, leaving one resident dead and six others, including police officers and firefighters, injured.

According to police and fire authorities, a report was received stating that an intoxicated resident appeared to be pouring gasoline on the third floor of a villa located in Deokgye-dong, Yangju.

As police officers arrived and attempted to check the affected unit on the third floor, an explosion suddenly occurred along with flames that spread throughout the entire building.

After 119 firefighters brought the fire under control in about 50 minutes and inspected the interior, a male resident in his 60s, identified as A, was found dead inside the home, having suffered burns.

A total of six people, including four police officers, one firefighter, and one resident, were injured due to the sudden explosion and fire, though their injuries are reportedly not serious.

Police and fire authorities are investigating the cause, focusing on the possibility that the fire was caused by arson.
