Yeo Seo-jeong (24, Jecheon City Hall) claimed first place among eight athletes with an average score of 14.483 points across her first and second vaults in the women's vault final at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games held today at the Nagoya Comprehensive Gymnasium in Aichi Prefecture, Japan.

This result marks the 10th gold medal for the South Korean delegation at these Asian Games and the first medal for the South Korean gymnastics team.

Yeo Seo-jeong captured her second Asian Games gold medal, eight years after her victory at the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Games.

Yeo missed the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games held in 2023 to compete in the World Championships, which served as a qualifier for the team event at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Having become the first South Korean female artistic gymnast to stand on an Olympic podium by winning a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Yeo Seo-jeong has now collected two Asian Games gold medals, matching her father, Yeo Hong-chul, Executive Managing Director of the Korea Gymnastics Association.

Director Yeo Hong-chul achieved consecutive men's vault victories at the 1994 Hiroshima Games and the 1998 Bangkok Games.

He also won a vault silver medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

The father-daughter duo of Yeo Hong-chul and Yeo Seo-jeong have each won two Asian Games gold medals and earned Olympic medals.

Qualifying for the final in first place, Yeo Seo-jeong overwhelmed her seven competitors with high leaps, clean aerial performance, and solid landings, earning the only score above 14 points.

In her first vault, Yeo performed a technique with a difficulty score of 5.4, receiving an execution score of 9.266 for a total of 14.466 points.

That technique was the Yeo 2, originally created by Professor Yeo Hong-chul.

In her second vault, even after lowering her difficulty to 5.0, she added an execution score of 9.100 to record 14.100 points.

North Korea's An Chang-ok received a 0.3-point deduction after her left foot stepped outside the mat upon landing in her second vault, taking the silver medal with a two-vault average of 13.666 points.
