President Lee Jae-myung, departing from New York, U.S., after completing his UN General Assembly schedule, arrived in Mexico City on the afternoon of the 23rd (local time).

This visit was arranged upon the invitation of Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, marking the first state visit by a South Korean president in 16 years.

As his first schedule the next day, President Lee will lay a wreath at the Monument to the Heroic Cadets and attend the official welcoming ceremony at the National Palace.

Following this, he will consecutively hold a summit and an expanded summit with President Sheinbaum, attend a memorandum of understanding (MOU) exchange ceremony, have a luncheon, and hold a joint press conference.

On the 25th, he will attend a business forum held at the World Trade Center in Mexico City and visit the K-Expo venue before heading back home on the 26th.

Director of National Security Wi Sung-lac explained in a pre-briefing, "Through this visit, we will strengthen practical cooperation with Mexico in trade, investment, and supply chain sectors."

In particular, he conveyed that given Mexico's push for military modernization projects, possibilities for cooperation leveraging South Korea's defense industry could also be discussed.

Regarding the cultural sector, Director Wi stated, "Mexico is a core consumer market for K-content," adding, "We will prepare to ensure that this visit serves as a firm milestone for the mutual prosperity of both countries."
