President Lee Jae-myung stated, "What could be more important than life," adding that the government is making all-out efforts to "save the lives of the people."

Visiting New York in the United States on the occasion of attending the UN General Assembly, President Lee wrote this on his social media on September 23 local time, sharing a news article reporting that while the overall suicide rate declined for the first time in three years, the rate among teenagers hit an all-time high.

President Lee emphasized, "The government of popular sovereignty is making every effort to save citizens' lives, whether it involves suicide, disaster fatalities, accidental deaths, or crime-related deaths."

He added, "Suicide deaths have also been steadily declining by more than 10% since nationwide suicide prevention measures were established and implemented following my inauguration last year."

However, he pledged, "It is truly regrettable that the youth suicide rate is actually heading in reverse due to factors such as academics," adding, "I will continue to pay close attention and make efforts to minimize this unfortunate reality."

President Lee emphasized, "Nothing is more precious than life," noting that "changing circumstances that are more agonizing than death—such as livelihood concerns, suffering, loneliness, and despair—is the core of policy."
